BIOGRAPHY
Xu Jianguo, alias Dà Diàozi (slang for "color master"), was born in Shanghai in 1951. As a child, Xu Jianguo studied classical painting and calligraphy under the guidance of Ye Zhihao, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Literature and History. In 1976, he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and went to the United States in 1984 for his further exploration of art In 1984, he received a Master's degree in Fine Arts(MFA) at Bard College in New York, and became a professional artist in the Soho Gallery in New York. Over the next thirty years, he held solo exhibitions annually and in the meantime Xu Jianguo has explored a new areas of multicultural integration. In 2010, his significant work "Shanghai Vista" was exhibited at the World Expo in Shanghai.Since 2010, his solo exhibitions sponsored by the US Embassy in China have toured major museums in China, including the Beijing Capital Museum (autumn 2010), the Shanghai Art Museum (spring 2011), the Guangdong Museum (spring 2012), and the National Museum of China (autumn 2013). His works have also been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, Smith College, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Sotheby's Hong Kong has held solo exhibitions for him.
Since 2016, Alisan Gallery of Hong Kong has held solo exhibition for Xu and displayed his works at several editions of Art Basel Hong Kong and Shanghai Art 21 after 2016. Xu Jianguo's works have combined artistic features of the East and West. His unique oil painting series not only transcend the symbolic system of classic Chinese ink painting and the system of Western light and color modeling conceptually, but also integrate the unique charm of Eastern ink and paper with Western expressions of light and color effects in artistic media. This unprecedented collision in art history has fused human civilizations and created a new multi-aesthetic realm. His artistic works have immediately gained widespread favor from collectors worldwide.

徐健国,别号大调子(意为“色彩大师”的俚语),1951 年出生于上海。 年幼时,徐健国在上海文史研究所研究员叶之浩的指导下学习古典绘画和书法。1976 年, 他从上海戏剧学院获得艺术学士学位,并于 1984 年前往美国,于1985年在纽约巴德硕士学院攻读绘画艺术工作室硕士学位并于同年签约纽约Soho画廊。 在接下来的三十年里每年举办个展。他在纽约的工作室里探索了多元文化融合的新领域,2010年上海世博会世博馆展出徐健国重要作品《申城新瑞图》。自 2010 年起,由美 国驻华大使馆赞助的个展在中国各大知名博物馆巡回展出,包括北京首都博物馆(2010 年秋 季)、上海美术馆(2011 年春季)、广东省博物馆(2012 年春季)和中国国家博物馆 (2013 年秋季)。他的作品还曾在布鲁克林博物馆、史密斯学院、波士顿艺术博物馆展出,以及香港苏富比为其举办个展。自 2016 年以来,香港艺倡画廊为徐健国举行个展并在 2016年之后的数届香港巴塞尔艺术展和上海艺术 021 展出他的作品。
徐健国八十年代中期以来的作品汇集了东西方的艺术特征,他独创的油画系列不仅在理念上跨越中国经典水墨的符号系统和西方光色造型的语言系统,同时在艺术媒介上把东西方的水墨宣纸的独特魅力和光色效应的西方表现形式结合起来,这个艺术史上从来没有发生过的碰撞让人类优秀的文明融合,创造了新的多元审美的意境,他创作的艺术作品立即得到国际上收藏家们普遍的喜爱。
